Author Sally Koch wrote, “Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.” Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Too often we overlook the importance of the small things. In the early 1960s NASA initiated the Mariner program, unmanned space probes to explore neighboring planets. Within minutes of the first Mariner’s launch in 1962, the rocket veered dangerously off course and, for safety’s sake, had to be destroyed. The subsequent examination of the failed space probe revealed that the erratic flight resulted from – are you ready for this – an omitted hyphen in the rocket’s guidance software. A hyphen! Little things really do make a difference.

Greatness will elude most of us, but we can do something about the small opportunities that surround us daily. God has given us the capacity to help others in little ways that will make a huge difference. God is not just in the momentous, he is also in the minute. People around us need the hyphens – a smile, an encouraging word, a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on. It may be the very thing that keeps them on course. Today, do something small in a big way!
