A Day to be Thankful

Nov 23, 2022Emily Bedwell

"Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”

Tomorrow is thanksgiving day, and a day to be thankful, but it does not stop there. On Sunday, we were challenged to reflect on another reason the Church still matters in 2022 – how we can serve with open hearts and compassionate hands. Service is not just about filling up a spot on a sign in sheet, or about feeling good about doing something. Service can and should be a reflection of Christ in us. We serve because He was a servant first. We serve because we believe in the intrinsic value of each life, of each moment, of each person. We serve because we have been abundantly blessed and want to give some of that back to the world. We serve because, in serving, we experience a little bit more of what it means to life the life Christ has called us to live. We serve to fill needs, both to those we serve, and the spot in our own heart that is demanding we give back to the world, to His kingdom, and to His family.

There are always more ways you can serve, both inside and outside the church. There is a place where YOUR gift can make all the difference. As you settle into your Thanksgiving plans, take a moment to be thankful for those that will spend the next few days serving and ask God how you can be a bigger part of His story in your community!
