A green smelly coat?

The emergence of spring always reminds me of an old green coat.

Hi. I'm Claudia Mitchell with a minute message from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

Mike Foster writes about Elizabeth Henson who decided to throw away an old green coat that smelled of moth balls. Her college age son asked if he could have it. He picked up a pair of scissors and cut a ping pong ball in half and went to work with some needle and some thread.

Who could have dreamed in 1955 that that old green coat would become an international icon, date a prima-dona pig and play the banjo in a swamp. Her son was Jim Henson and that old green coat became Kermit the Frog.

Jim believed the old could become new again. It just needed a second chance.

Paul, the apostle knew all about second chances, wrote, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the old is gone, the new is here.”

Really? Aren’t we all wearing green coats? As we surrender our green coats and our brokenness into the hands of God, he crafts something as new, and perhaps even as surprising as a banjo playing frog.
