Another way to say that Joseph kept the end in mind is to say Joseph had vision. Joseph’s vision was bigger than himself. If Joseph would have had a small, self-focused vision or no vision at all, the pit would have become his vision–his end.
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”
How do we get a vision like Joseph had?
As a parent of teenagers, I can get so bogged down in day-to-day situations that I lose vision. After the sermon this past Sunday, I asked God, “What’s YOUR vision for my kids?” In the listening, the word FREEDOM lept out. Wow, God! That’s a vision! That’s an end I would like to keep in mind on the not-so-easy parenting days. Freedom!
Need vision for your kids? For your marriage? For your life? Ask God. Then, listen. With God’s vision, even when we fall into the proverbial pit, the pit will not be our end, because we will be able to keep God’s vision–the end–in mind just like Joseph.
