Quantity over quality. That’s the motto for so much of Western society. Especially when it comes to food. I am all about all-you-can-eat buffets that leave you feeling less than good about yourself afterwards. The problem with this mentality is that most of life doesn’t operate well on non-stop poor-quality consumption.

In Jesus’ famous prayer, the Lord Prayer, he teaches us to pray these words found in Matthew 6:11: “Give us today our daily bread.”
Now while it may seem un-American to not ask for more and more, Jesus is teaching his followers that the Lord is our provider, and he cares deeply for us. We don’t need to chase excess to find comfort and joy. God promises to provide all we need for today and that is enough.
So as you pray, take a page from the Lord’s Prayer and ask God to retrain your heart to not need “the second plate at the buffet”, but to be content in every circumstance with the plate in front of you, knowing that God has given you all that you need.
