Measuring Spiritual Growth

I loved Allen’s comparison on Sunday to measuring a child’s growth against a wall over the years, to measuring our spiritual growth. Being a parent and an aunt, every milestone is exciting. It’s exciting when your kid learns to crawl and then walk and then count and so on. And it’s also exciting to see them physically grow, as you know that’s a sign of life and health. But what real significance is growing tall when you are looking in from a Biblical perspective?

Learning to crawl or growing taller are measures we use from an earthly perspective to gauge our child’s growth. And although they are exciting to be a part of, the sermon reminded us that the true measure of growth is not in physical height or outward appearance, but in the development of wisdom, favor with God, and love for others.

Let’s shift our focus from worldly standards to nurturing the spiritual growth of our children, just as Jesus teaches us!
