The Start and Reflection of Holy Week

Holy Week is both a gloomy and powerfully significant time in our calendar.

As we reflect on Jesus' final days before his crucifixion, we are reminded of his profound, deep obedience to the Father's will. In Matthew 26:36-46, Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, experiencing deep anguish and surrendering his own desires to God's plan. Although He stayed with His Father and obeyed his every command, the time was coming near when He would suffer all the sufferings laid out before Him.

Does this remind you to examine your own willingness to submit to God, when faced with difficulty or even sacrifice? It sure does me. How often do I make decisions based on my own interests and emotions and consult God later? Just as Jesus yielded to the Father's plan, may we, too, display a humble and obedient heart as we navigate the challenges and trials of our own lives.

I hope you were able to take time and reflect on the start of this Holy Week with Palm Sunday! Having the children lead part of our worship service was such a beautiful sight. As they waved their palms, I couldn’t help but imagine the welcoming Jesus would have been given that day if the crowd were filled with those of childlike faith, excitement, adoration and open arms!
