Was this Written for me?

Do you ever sit in the pew on a Sunday morning and say “wow, this sermon was written to me?” Maybe you don’t even want to believe that God is trying to directly talk to you – a little bit of denial if you will. But He knows what He’s doing and sometimes a sermon might speak to you in that very moment, while others might take some time to sink in.

On Sunday, Allen spoke at Bedford about Matthew 5:4. I have read, screenshotted, been sent, highlighted, sang, and pretty much everything besides make a t-shirt of that verse in my recent days. Some days I believe it. Some days I thank God for it. And some days, I am really angry. Are you sure, God? I mean I know you are God, and you are sure but really, I will be comforted in this time of grief?

But God doesn’t say “you might be comforted.” He doesn’t say “possibly blessed are those that mourn.” So don’t miss the point. He’s very clear: Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

You and I might not feel comforted right now, but we cannot let go of Jesus. We cannot give up or forget about our eternal home. We must cling to Him, to His promises, and not let go – through tears and trials alike. He will comfort us like only He can.
