Minute Message November 3

The next time someone accuses you of being thin skinned, just smile and remind them that the thickness of your skin is just right. Hi, I’m Tom Ellsworth from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with a minute message.

Our skin, the largest bodily organ, covers the entire surface of our body. You see it in the mirror every morning, but do you realize how incredible it is? There are three layers to this fascinating organ, but in this moment just take a look at the outer layer, the epidermis. The epidermis itself has multiple layers but the part we see is roughly the thickness of the plastic wrap we use to seal up leftover food. And it is comprised of dead cells tightly attached to one another to resist wear and tear. However, we lose up to 40,000 cells every minute or about nine pounds of skin annually. But don’t panic – new cells are generated at a rate that precisely matches cell loss keeping the skin just right all the time. It really is God’s miracle wrap.

So the next time someone tells you that beauty is only skin deep, just take a look at your skin and agree. Your outer layer is simply amazing – God’s incredible design.
